Welcome to Mate Comprehensive School

History of the School

PREAMBLE:

On the 23rd of April, 1998 was the 5th Anniversary of Emmanuel Anglican Church which is located on part of the land of Mate Nursery / Primary School. The then Archbishop of Lagos, The Most Revd Dr. J.A. Adetiloye was invited to preach the Anniversary Sermon. However, instead of limiting his sermon to the chapel, He seized the opportunity to advise the Proprietor / Proprietress to establish High School. They made frantic effort to acquire a 5 acre of land at Ikorodu, but the initiative could not be established then, so they gave up the idea at that time.

As fate would have it, this demand for them to establish a Secondary School came up repeatedly with pressure from the community and parents of Mate Nursery / Primary School. Thus in 2000, they could not ignore this demand any longer.

Precisely on 4th October, 2000, Mate Comprehensive High School Ketu was formally opened, on 12 Doyin Omololu, Street in a purposely-built building formally occupied by the Primary School as an Annex to the main school.

ENROLLMENT: The School at its inception in October 2000 took off with 14 students in JSS One and pioneering Principal. The School population has been witnessing a steady growth. The staff strength is also very adequate with a ratio of one teacher to eleven students.

INFRASTRUCTURE: Necessary infrastructures to aid effective teaching and learning have also been put in place. There are standard and well equipped laboratories for Chemistry, Physics, and Biology and other special rooms, as well as a Computer room with facilities.

CONCLUSION: The School has been presenting Students for both State and National Exams at the Junior level since 2002. While the Senior Students have also been presented for both the WAEC & NECO Exams from 2005. The results so far have been encouraging.

  • Assisting the student keep abreast of diverse societal occurrences.

  • Exposing the child to further educative information and processes.

Our students are engaged in the preparation and presentation of a variety of Shows, Dance dramas, Ballets, Exhibitions and Diverse competitions.

Our Approach to teenage Education

We pride ourselves in focusing on the individual student because we appreciate the fact that each child is unique. We mould our students to be global citizens therefore we employ a fully integrated international curriculum in our syllabus. For this reason also, our class sizes are limited to a maximum of 20 students. And we place high emphasis on the moral development and excellence through diligence, honesty, discipline, integrity, and respect for others.

Our Location

Located on the heart of a beautiful Regency town of Ketu in Lagos, we have created a nurturing environment where our students benefit from participation in the local community. Our comfortable and homely Boarding and Day houses are walking distance from the college and the student walk regularly to and from, developing a sense of responsibility and independence from an early age.

Entrance Examination

Candidates who have been cleared by the admission office normally sit for an entrance Examination organized by the School’s Academic Department.

Common Entrance

Candidates for entry into Year 7 usually write a Common Entrance Examination held at the College and various other centres across the country. This examination takes place in the months of March, April and May.

TESTIMONIALS

  • As a family that was new to Lagos City, the admissions team at MCHS was exceptionally helpful in guiding us through the registration process. They made the experience an all together worthwhile one for us and we are grateful and happy to have worked with them. We highly recommend their easy to understand and value for money packages for the students, as outlined in the school prospectus!

  • Dear MCHS Staff, It has been privilege for our son to attend the comprehensive high school for the last two years, however he will be leaving the school as we're moving to the East. His last day of school will be on 14th July (Friday) 2017. We will always be grateful for the school's nurturing environment, excellent education standards and wonderful atmosphere.

  • Mate Comprehensive High School's educational standard have really exceeded our expectations…the best part was that the school has always been steps ahead of our needs and very proactive. Being a parent of a pre-teen child going away from the family for the first time, it was a bit scary, but our fears were easily allayed and we soon realised that our boy was in good very hands. We have been recommending MCHS to all our friends and family who are looking to give their children an outstanding secondary education experience.

  • As parents, we were looking for a good boarding school in Lagos for my daughter but because I travel a lot on the job. Mate was a very convenient and wise choice because of the reputation and the consistency they have demonstrated over the years. I was introduced by a family friend whose children were also at the Mate Comprehensive High School and I have never regretted the decision to register our daughter.
